In 1958, Russian pianist Vladimir Ashkenazy performed for the first time in the United States. He was just 21 when he gave a concert together with America's hottest classical music name, the conductor Leonard Bernstein, who just took over as chief conductor of the New York Philharmonic. At the same concert, Bernstein conducted the still unknown masterpiece Arcana, written in the 1920s by Edgar Varèse - and Baroque Music by Vivaldi!
