CONCERT: Pekka Kuusisto in Daníel Bjarnason's violin concerto
147 min - Fri Jan 31st at 19.03
Dance is a common denominator for the three works that the Radio Symphonics perform under the direction of Klaus Mäkelä. Pekka Kuusisto is a soloist in Daniel Bjarnason's newly written violin concerto, where it all begins with a whistle.

Music from Peru is not exactly everyday food in the Berwald Hall, but here we get a piece by Jimmy López who was born in Lima. In his "Perú Negro" there are traces of Peruvian dance and folk music, which according to the conductor Klaus Mäkelä offers a challenge for a Western European orchestra.

The piece is an order from the conductor Miguel Harth-Bedoya and an important element is the tones that form the client's initials. The notes return to the piece.

Daniel Bjarnason's violin concerto also has a slightly odd element: the soloist whistles at the beginning, while he plays. The playing and whistling are then taken over in the orchestra. A rather quiet element, may seem, but it adds a lot to the sound, which is also favored by soloist Pekka Kuusisto's different way of tuning the violin.

The concert concludes with Stravinsky's "Petruska", a ballet about the poor puppet who falls in love with a puppet dancer. Jealousy occurs and the doll Petruska is brutally killed by the wicked mother. But towards the end, he reappears ...
