Norrlandsoperans symphony orchestra meets the conductor JoAnn Falletta and sweet music arises - literally. Listen to Ravel, Strauss and Ellen Taaffe Zwilich.
Music that joins times and epochs becomes when the Norrlandsoperan Symphony Orchestra plays works by American Ellen Zwilich, by Maurice Ravel and Richard Strauss .
They do it under the direction of JoAnn Falletta , who can be said to be one of the pioneers among the female conductors. For more than 30 years, she has been conducting orchestras around the world and has occasionally been fighting for prejudice and stiff structures.
Zwilich has both been inspired by and used music by Georg Friedrich Händel when she wrote a Concerto Grosso in connection with the celebration of his 300-year-old birth.
Maurice Ravel joins the classical music with the jazz in his gian grand piano concert, which came after a visit to George Gershwin who took him to Harlem.
Richard Strauss, like Zwilich, has been inspired by a baroque teller. In Strauss's case, it's about Jean-Baptist Lully as he borrowed some arias from when he wrote actress music to Molières play Borgaren as the nobility.
